On the other hand, if primitive human beings authored the Bible, as they so obviously did, lying baldly whenever they pretended to speak for the barbaric “god” they created in their own barbaric image, then every word of the Bible is suspect. WHICH. IT. IS.
We know the Josephus passage in question, the Testimonium Flavianum, is a Christian insertion and obvious fraud. Why? Because if Josephus, a religious Jew, had really believed Jesus was the Messiah, he would have written more about him. A lot more. No religious Jew says, “Jesus was the Messiah, ho-hum!” then rushes on to write at far greater length about far lesser figures.
Plutarch says Romulus became a lowly shepherd. [Jesus was called “the good shepherd.”]

Christians, would you in your biblical wisdom join primitive throngs splitting rape victims’ skulls open until the poor girls’ brains leaked out? If you believe abortion is a sin, how can you explain verses that command the mass murder of women who have had sex, which would include pregnant women? How do you explain only the virgin girls being kept alive, obviously as sex slaves? And the Bible contains more satanic commandments about “men of god” keeping their sex slaves for life, and passing them down as an “inheritance” to their children. If you believe Jesus is God and that God authored the Bible, will you blaspheme the name of Jesus by accusing him of authoring these satanic commandments?
Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up [on Mt. Sinai] and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of sapphire, clear as the sky itself. But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw God, and they ate and drank. (Exodus 24:9-11)
If the Christian Bible is “infallible” then Jesus was the greatest hypocrite of all time. Why? Because he preached the sermon of the Good Samaritan, a man who put aside religious differences to show compassion to someone of another faith who was helpless to help himself. And yet according to Christian theology, Jesus will not be a Good Samaritan himself, but will condemn billions of human beings who cannot save themselves to an infinitely cruel, purposeless “hell” for guessing wrong about which religion to believe. No good or even halfway decent deity would do such a despicable thing. How can Christians claim to be believe Jesus is loving, wise and just if he would do such an incredibly evil thing? If Jesus is good, how is that not blasphemy? There is no reason for Christians to blaspheme Jesus’s name by accusing him of such evil, but that’s what they do. Ironically, atheists and agnostics give Jesus the “benefit of the doubt” and don’t blaspheme his name.

innocent women burned at the stake as “witches”
According to the Bible, human beings were given the knowledge of good and evil, or they would still be immortal and live in paradise today. We all know murdering babies is evil, or else all human beings were gypped by the biblical god Yahweh aka Jehovah. And yet Moses, whom the Bible claims talked to God face-to-face and received his commandments directly from God, didn’t know it’s horrendously evil to mass-murder babies and pregnant women, resulting in mass abortions (Numbers 31:17-18 and other genocidal verses).
My response to all infallible commandments of the infallible Bible, including those to mass-murder babies and unborns in their mothers' wombs, is: "Praise the LORD and pass the collection plate!" — Michael R. Burch

It was Paul who drew “many of the Gentiles,” not Jesus, who said in the gospels that his mission was to the Jews.
Is the Bible a book of wisdom, really? Who listens to baby killers? How many of us have fallen short of the “glory” of such satanic commandments?
Ezekiel boldly predicted that Nebuchadnezzar would sack and destroy Tyre, which would never be rebuilt. (Ezekiel 26:1-21) Zany Zeke went on for three chapters about all the terrible punishments the “Sovereign Lord” would inflict on Tyre. (Ezekiel chapters 26-28) But Zany Zeke later admitted that his prophecy had failed utterly, on the pages of the Bible (Ezekiel 29:18). Ezekiel then immediately predicted Nebuchadnezzar would sack Egypt and leave it an uninhabited wasteland for 40 years. (Ezekiel 29:9-13). Once again Zany Zeke went on and on about all the terrible punishments the “Sovereign Lord” would inflict on Egypt, this time for five chapters. (Ezekiel chapters 29-33) That prophecy also failed miserably. The Bible itself confirms that Ezekiel’s prophecies about Tyre were false, since according to the New Testament both Jesus and Paul visited Tyre. Egypt has never been an uninhabited wasteland for even a second in recorded history, much less at the hands of Nebuchadnezzar for 40 years.

The angels appearing with the great sound of a trumpet to gather the elect from every part of the earth.
Christians must have been gypped by their “god” since they were sentenced to death for gaining the knowledge of good and evil, and yet they don’t know evil from good, calling evil “good” when Jehovah commits evil. They should read Isaiah 5:20, which says: “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” We all know murdering babies is evil, and yet Christians insist that their “god” who mass-murdered babies during the Great Flood and Plagues of Egypt is not only “good” but perfect! And in the second case the diabolical Jehovah kept hardening the pharaoh’s heart, causing the pharaoh to oppose him, then used what he had caused as an excuse to murder all Egypt’s first-born children, including multitudes of babies. How can anyone not know that what the Bible accuses its god of doing was the height of evil? Did their “god” gypp Christians or did primitive men make up primitive BS?

Josephus would not have considered Jesus the Messiah because Jesus did nothing the Jews expected the Messiah to do. The early church father Origen said in his Commentary on Matthew that Josephus "did not accept Jesus as Christ." If the doctored passage had existed at his time, Origen could not have said that. Based on this observation alone, Paul L. Maier called the case for total authenticity of the Testimonium "hopeless."

How do you read “in context” the commandments of Moses to stone girls to death for being raped and for not proving their virginity by bleeding on their wedding nights? (The 22nd chapter of the satanic book of Deuteronomy)
Is depression a cause for always feeling tired?
Another false prophecy of Jesus said he would return during the lifetimes of his disciples. When this didn’t happen and Christians started dying, the evangelist Paul had to “talk down” his followers, as he did in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. This was disputed in the comments, so I will give Jesus’s prophecy: “Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.” (Matthew 24:34) Here is that verse in context, explaining what was to be fulfilled while the generation listening to Jesus was alive: 29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. 32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. 34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. (Matthew 24:29-34)
23 If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her, 24 you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death—the young woman because she was in a town and did not scream for help, and the man because he violated another man’s wife. You must purge the evil from among you. [Just assume the raped girl didn’t scream for help, on purpose. Take no thought for the fact that the rapist had his hand over her mouth, or held a knife to her throat, or that she was so petrified she couldn’t scream.]
FALSE PROPHECIES

THE LITMUS TEST: TRUTH VS. LIES
Quite obviously, I didn’t “lie” about Deuteronomy 22.
Why do men prefer women below the age of 30?
The problems with this highly problematic text include:
hell, Joan of Arc was burned at the stake by Christians as a “witch” because she wore men’s clothes!
An all-powerful, all-wise god who demands truth from human beings should not lie, nor should he need to lie. Why then does the bible contain obvious lies like the apostle Peter healing all the sick people in Jerusalem and surrounding cities with his shadow and the ludicrous ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE, which was unknown to the entire world and every bible author other than the liar who wrote Matthew?
Plutarch says the people wanted to search for Romulus but the Senate told them not to, “For he had risen to join the gods.” [A mysterious young man tells the women that Jesus has risen in the original shorter ending of the Gospel of Mark.]
Saving Graces
There is nothing “perfect” about the Bible or its diabolical “god.” Take the book of Job, where God is not only evil, but a hopeless dupe. If God is able to perfectly foresee the future, as the Christian religion claims, God was duped by the Devil into murdering Job’s children, hundreds of his servants, and his completely innocent animals. All God had to do was look in his infallible crystal ball and say, “Get behind me Satan, I know Job will remain faithful to me!”
In the comments it was claimed the Bible’s effect on the world has been “tremendous.” My response:
Yes, the Bible’s effect on the world has been tremendous:
Josephus would not have said "if it be lawful to call him a man" because the Jews had no concept of God becoming flesh, and still don’t 2,000 years later. This inclusion of Christian phraseology tells us the Testimonium is a Christian forgery, whether in whole or in part. In whole, I suspect.
Plutarch says Romulus was raised by a poor, nondescript family. [Jesus’s father was a lowly carpenter.]
OBSERVATIONS FROM THE COMMENTS
The Bible said an heir of David would always sit on the throne of Israel and would continually rule there. The prophet Jeremiah said, “For this is what the LORD says: ‘David will never fail to have a man to sit on the throne of Israel.’” (Jeremiah 33:17). That prophecy failed soon after David’s death, as ten of the twelve tribes of Israel were lost and Israel ceased to exist as a nation. Another Bible writer then hedged his bets drastically by saying David would always have an heir continually on the throne of the tiny province of Judea (2 Kings 8:19). But that prophecy also failed. The New Testament confirms both prophecies failed, since King Herod was an Idumaean. And for long periods of time there was no King of Israel or Judea, as at present.
Mark agrees:
Christians frequently cite a highly disputed passage from the Antiquities of the famous Jewish historian Flavius Josephus as “evidence” Jesus actually lived and was the Messiah. My response:
My main problem with the Bible was not all the obvious errors, the bad history, the bad science, the lies, the blatant contradictions, the false prophecies, etc. No, my main problem was that the biblical “god” Jehovah was clearly evil and that many of his commandments were evil. For instance, stoning children to death for misdemeanors and non-sins like girls being raped. Chapter 22 of the satanic book of Deuteronomy commands that girls should be stoned to death for being raped or for not “proving” their virginity by bleeding on their wedding nights. The real Creator would have known that all girls don’t bleed the first time they have sex. Nor should they have been murdered if they did have sex. Many Christians call Islam a “false religion” when rape victims are stoned to death in Muslim countries, but the Bible commands the same horror. I was horrified by the Bible’s satanic commandments, both as a boy and as an adult.
“For I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is above all gods.” (Psalm 135:5)
I have never understood how anyone could possibly consider the biblical “god” to be “good,” much less perfect. Why would anyone want to believe in an evil “god” when there is absolutely no evidence that he exists, and when so many biblical prophecies proved false? A few quick examples:
GEORGE CARLIN
THE BIBLE SAYS THERE ARE OTHER GODS
Plutarch says Romulus rose from the dead, then appeared to a friend, Proculus Julius, to give him the Great Commission to tell the “good news” to the people. Thereafter, Romulus was hailed as the “Son of a God.” [Jesus on the road to Emmaus.]
To recap, the things to be fulfilled while the people of that generation were still alive included:
CAN GOD BE SEEN: YES, NO AND “NOT ON YOUR LIFE!”
There is no “context” in which mass-murdering babies and their mothers is not hideously evil.
Elsewhere Matthew makes it clear that “this generation” means the disciples standing before Jesus: “27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. 28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.” (Matthew 16:27-28)
The author of Jeremiah said the two prophecies above were irrevocable: “Thus saith the Lord; If ye can break my covenant of the day, and my covenant of the night, and that there should not be day and night in their season; then may also my covenant be broken with David my servant, that he should not have a son to reign upon his throne; and with the Levites the priests, my ministers.” (Jeremiah 33:20-21) But it was all bluster and both prophecies came to a hill of beans.
The Bible has its “god” say: “I, the LORD, do not change.” (Malachi 3:6)
by Michael R. Burch
The charlatans who wrote the New Testament turned Jesus into a false prophet (and a false “profit”) when they had him “prophesy” that not a stone of the Jerusalem temple would be left standing on another stone. Archeologists have unearthed many such stones, some of them immense, still standing atop each other. You can see them if you visit Jerusalem.
And there are obvious problems with the text, as brief as it is:
In the opening chapters of Genesis the Elohim create the earth and the sky. The first verse of Genesis actually means: “In the beginning the gods created the heavens and the earth.” When human beings are created, the proper interpretation is the Elohim saying: “Let us (plural) create mankind in our (plural) own image, after our (plural) likeness.” The narrator then observes: “So the gods created mankind in their own image, in the image of the gods created they them; male and female created they them.” Unless god is a hermaphrodite, human women were created in the likeness of female gods like Asherah.
A reader expressed a similar opinion in the comments:
“Ho hum. There goes Jesus, raising the dead by truckloads. Let’s not tell anyone. Ho hum.”
Ravens do plan and store, and are actually quite ingenious about caching food for later retrieval.
And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites. (Judges 3:5)
“And ye [the people Jesus was talking to] shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.” (Mark 14:62)
IF the Bible is correct about what Jesus said and did (it obviously isn’t), then Jesus was the greatest hypocrite who ever lived, after having sternly rebuked other religious hypocrites (the Pharisees), and furthermore Jesus is infinitely more evil than the Devil.
by Michael R. Burch
This is the sort of evil nonsense the Bible tries to pass off as “wisdom.” Any bright child can see how evil the biblical “god” was, because he was created by primitive men in their own barbaric image.
half the Bible
Please do give us your “spiritual” interpretation of satanic commandments to stone girls to death for being raped (Deuteronomy 22:23-24) and for fathers to sell their daughters as sex slaves with an option to buy them back if they don’t “please” their new masters (Exodus 21:7-11). Did the Holy Spirit inspire these satanic commandments? As a member of the Trinity, did Jesus approve them? He must have, since they ended up in the Bible … unless the Bible was written by evil-minded men. As it so obviously was.
Stars falling from the sky and the heavens shaken.
Were commandments to mass-murder babies and pregnant women “instruction in righteousness”? (Numbers 31:17-18) Quoting a verse from a book with satanic commandments to murder women, babies and unborns proves absolutely nothing.
The real Creator would have known all girls don’t bleed the first time they have sex, so these satanic commandments were clearly written by primitive barbarians pretending to speak for God. How can anyone be fooled by such evil idiots?
Christians love to quote Bible verses about the purported “love,” “wisdom,” “mercy,” and “glory” of their alleged “god,” but the proof is in the pudding and the Bible’s pudding is rancid. For example:
Elsewhere, in multiple verses, the Bible says its “god” has never been seen and never can be seen. Why? Because an ancient sect of Levite priests decided their “god” is an invisible spirit, too holy to take human form. Thus they had their “god” in the Ten Commandments forbid any physical depiction of gods: “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.” And yet Bible verses say Jehovah was seen by Adam, Eve, Abraham, Sarah, Moses and the 70 elders of Israel, Jacob/Israel and others.
Please keep in mind that this is a huge “IF” and that I am not accusing Jesus of being evil or a hypocrite. However, IF the Bible is the “inerrant” word of “god” as so many Christians claim, these assertions of mine are undeniably true.
Of course it was all ancient malarkey, but the responsibility for evil was shifted from an all-powerful “god” who controlled everything, to a character who was never mentioned for thousands of years, until the census of King David. We can see how the authors of the Bible shifted the responsibility for evil from Jehovah to Satan:
We see the same thing happen in Judges chapter 15. Here Jehovah gave the tribe of Judah an allotment of territories that included Jerusalem. At that time the great god-favored heroes Joshua and Caleb were leading the Israelites. But despite being favored by an all-powerful “god” they were unable to defeat the Jebusites in order to take the Bible’s most important city!
Saving Graces
28 If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, 29 he shall pay her father fifty shekels of silver. He must marry the young woman, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives. [This unimaginable evil would make the rape victim the sex slave of her rapist and would allow a rich man to acquire a harem of sex slaves, by raping them, then paying off their fathers.]
by Michael R. Burch
The Bible also said Levites would always offer sacrifices to their “god” continually: “Neither shall the priests the Levites want a man before me to offer burnt offerings, and to kindle meat offerings, and to do sacrifice continually.” (Jeremiah 33:18) But the Jerusalem temple was destroyed twice and for long periods of time (including the present) no sacrifices were offered because the temple did not exist.
ghastly Inquisitions in which one sect of Christians tortured, maimed and murdered other Christians over points of religious dogma
For example, in the early books of the Bible the biblical “god” committed all sorts of evil, but over time the authors of the Bible apparently decided their “god” should not be so wicked. So they introduced a new character, Satan, who started out as a powerless messenger boy who could do nothing without Jehovah’s permission. Jehovah had to agree to murder Job’s children, servants and animals. Satan was not allowed to do anything without Jehovah’s permission. But over time Satan grew more and more powerful, until in the New Testament he was able to offer all the kingdoms of the earth to Jesus.
Why did the Catholic Church oppose Bible translation to popular languages?
Josephus was writing shortly after the creation of the Christian church, so the phrase “are not extinct at this day” seems passing strange, since original Christians and their children would have still been living when he wrote. Indeed, Josephus would have known Christians when he lived in Jerusalem and later in Rome, if they were “many” as the Bible claims. But his lack of familiarity with Christianity suggests Christians were few in Josephus’s lifetime, since he wrote nothing about miracle workers like Peter and Paul.
Nothing could be clearer, and it’s obvious the earliest Christians were expecting Jesus to return during their lifetimes, which is why Paul had to talk them down. And Paul echoed the claim that some Christians living at that time (“we”) would still be alive when Jesus returned. (1 Thessalonians 4:15, 1 Corinthians 15:51-52)
Isaiah 17:1 prophesied that Damascus would be a heap of ruins and no longer a city thereafter. Never happened.
But were commandments to stone rape victims to death “given by the ‘inspiration’ of God”? (Deuteronomy 22:23)
Kenneth Olson has argued that the entire Testimonium was forged by Eusebius, basing his argument on textual similarities between the Testimonium and Eusebius’s writings in Demonstrations of the Gospels. This would be my guess. And I would also guess that Eusebius was very cramped for space, or he would have lied a lot more profusely, as was his self-admitted wont.
Would you, for example, murder curious Eve for eating an apple, after you had denied her the knowledge of good and evil, meaning she couldn’t know it was evil to sneak a bite? Would you murder your daughter under the same circumstances? And why did this evil father want to keep Eve in an animal state, not knowing good from evil?
Try again.
“The LORD was with the men of Judah. They took possession of the hill country, but they were unable to drive the people from the plains, because they had chariots fitted with iron.” (Judges 1:19 NIV)
I am being attacked by Christians for not reading Bible verses “in context.” My response:
How can billions of Christians failed to see the deep and terrible flaws in their chosen religion?
racism
If Jesus loves the little children, as the song goes, why doesn’t he provide human doctors with the cure for cancer? If he opposes abortion, why doesn’t he divert hurricanes and save the lives of pregnant mothers? If God controls the weather as Christians believe, then God is the greatest abortionist ever.
I have been called many nasty names by alleged “Christians” for expressing my honest doubts and opinions. In response, I will offer my translation of an ancient philosopher:
I read the Bible from cover to cover twice — the first time at age eleven, the second time as an adult in my forties. Both times I came to the same conclusion, which I expressed in this epigram I wrote sometime between age eleven and thirteen:
eventually the Holocaust…
Christians, what will happen when the sheep are separated from the goats and you have to stand before Jesus and explain why you accused him of such incredible evils: slavery, sex slavery, the ghastly stoning to death of children, infanticide, matricide, ethnic cleansing and genocide? These are the worst crimes known to “man unkind,” to borrow a phrase from E. E. Cummings. When will Christians stop blaspheming the name of Jesus by accusing him of authoring such satanic commandments? The Bible was clearly written by primitive men, some of them worse than Hitler. Can a true religion be based on lies?
The prophets did not predict “ten thousand other wonderful things” concerning Jesus.
Jesus said a good tree cannot bear evil fruit (Matthew 7:18) and if he was perfect in wisdom a good God cannot produce evil commandments. But the biblical “god” certainly did, over and over again.
They were gypped by their God and don’t know evil from good.
“Ho hum. There goes Jesus, raising the dead by truckloads. Let’s not tell anyone. Ho hum.”
Jesus was far from infallible according to the Bible, but his other mistakes pale in comparison to the catastrophes above.
Now there was about this time Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man; for he was a doer of wonderful works, a teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him both many of the Jews and many of the Gentiles. He was [the] Christ. And when Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men amongst us, had condemned him to the cross, those that loved him at the first did not forsake him; for he appeared to them alive again the third day; as the divine prophets had foretold these and ten thousand other wonderful things concerning him. And the tribe of Christians, so named from him, are not extinct at this day.
When rape victims are stoned to death in Muslim countries, Christians call Islam a “false religion” but the Bible commands such ghastly stonings. Does that make Christianity a false religion?
The author of the same account in 1 Chronicles evidently didn’t think his God should be so evil, so he changed his account to say Satan induced David to take the census. (1 Chronicles 21:1) This was the first appearance of the name Satan in the Christian Bible, and the purpose of the creation of this new character is obvious: to keep Jehovah from murdering 70,000 innocent people over something he had caused. But the author of this account still had Jehovah murder 70,000 innocent people, so his “god” was only slightly less evil.(1 Chronicles 21:14)
Josephus scholar Louis Feldman reversed his earlier support for the partial authenticity of the Testimonium to deem it entirely an interpolation by Eusebius. Feldman observed that the Testimonium, brief as it is, contains three phrases which are used nowhere else in Greek literature except Eusebius. Those phrases being: “one who wrought surprising feats,” “the tribe of the Christians,” and “still to this day.”
How can anyone reconcile these verses in a single book?
No enlightened or even decent deity would do such a wildly unjust thing. None of us would do such an infinitely cruel and wildly unjust thing, to our worst enemies. Are our morals better than the supreme being’s, if such an entity exists?
Christians often take the stance that evil was good when Yahweh did obviously evil things, or that they somehow “don’t know” killing babies is evil even though they rail against abortion even when fetuses are incapable of thought or feeling pain. Did Yahweh gypp Christians by condemning them to death without giving them anything in return?
The account of Satan “hardening” hearts rather than Jehovah created a conflict between authors of the Bible who said their “god” was responsible for evil, and those who tried to make their “god” seem better behaved.
Livy says Romulus was raised to heaven by his father, the god Mars, to rule from on high. Plutarch wrote about annual public ceremonies that were still being performed in his day, which celebrated the day Romulus ascended to heaven. [The Ascension of Jesus.]
“EVIDENCE”? WHAT EVIDENCE?
THE BIBLICAL “GOD” WAS EVIL
Jehovah was proved a false prophet because he promised Canaan to Abraham and his descendants but never was able to deliver it. In an amusing Bible verse, an all-powerful “god” was on the side of the tribe of Judah (the tribe of David, Solomon and later Jesus), but this god-favored tribe was unable to drive out pagan tribes because they had iron chariots!
Zany Zeke also prophesied that the Nile would dry up. (Ezekiel 30:12)
Jeremiah issued a similar false prophecy about Nebuchadnezzar, saying he would defeat Egypt and leave Noph (Memphis) a desolate, uninhabited waste. That, too, never happened. (Jeremiah 46:19)
Why so short? What we have is clearly a Christian gloss, probably all the charlatans could squeeze in when they doctored the text in question.
“Judah could not dislodge the Jebusites, who were living in Jerusalem; to this day the Jebusites live there with the people of Judah.” (Joshua 15:63)
According to the Bible, God planted the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the perfect Garden of Eden. He gave Adam and Eve a choice: if they didn't eat the fruit of that tree, they would live forever in a perfect paradise. If they ate the “forbidden fruit” they would become like God, knowing good from evil, but they would have to die. If human beings do not have the knowledge of good and evil, then God lied to them and condemned them to suffer and die unjustly. Do Christians dispute the word of God Almighty? If not, how can they not know it’s evil to mass-murder babies? If so, they know Yahweh was evil to mass-murder babies. Or they know the primitive men who wrote the Bible were making up evil things about their God, which is obviously the case, but then the Bible is far from “infallible.”
There is no God and it was all made up.
The cursory Testimonium stands in marked contrast to Josephus’s loquacious historical style. And why would a Christian believer write far more about the death of John the Baptist than that of the living God, who died to redeem the sins of the world? Of course that makes no sense at all. Josephus’s description of the death of John the Baptist includes considerations of his virtues, his oratorical skills and rhetoric, his influence, his theology, his baptismal practices, the circumstances of his death, and the belief Herod's army was destroyed as divine punishment for Herod murdering John. Why then so little about a far more important death and its far greater ramifications for the world? It makes no sense at all.
No one, not even animals, were allowed to approach Mt. Sinai: “No one is to come with you or be seen anywhere on the mountain; not even the flocks and herds may graze in front of the mountain.” (Exodus 34:3) But what did Jehovah do about all the innocent wild animals and birds? Did they all die for the “sin” of gazing on Mt. Sinai?
22 If a man is found sleeping with another man’s wife, both the man who slept with her and the woman must die. You must purge the evil from Israel. [It doesn’t matter if a married woman has been raped, just murder them both and be done with it! Is this “the wisdom of God” or the evil lunacy of primitive barbarians?]
THE DUBIOUS “PERFECTIONS” OF GOD AND THE BIBLE
—Michael R. Burch

In Exodus chapter 31, the great lawgiver and prophet Moses, who allegedly received his commandments directly from Jehovah, berated his warriors for allowing captured women, children and animals to live, then ordered them all slaughtered, even the mothers and their male babies, keeping only the virgin girls alive, obviously as sex slaves.
Why did the authors and editors of the New Testament lie about Jesus soaring into the clouds after having been crucified? My educated guess is that they were writing for Romans and borrowed liberally from the myths of Romulus, the founder from whom Rome got its name, or vice versa. Here are the parallels, drawn from Livy and Plutarch:
The first reference to this “amazing confirmation” that Josephus called Jesus the Messiah was very late: Eusebius’s dubious reference in AD 324. And Eusebius said himself that it was groovy to lie like dogs when convincing other people of the “truths” of Christianity. Should we believe self-professed liars? Can a true religion be based on lies? And why did no Christian writer mention the “amazing” fact that Josephus was a believer, for over 200 years? Because he obviously wasn’t.
Jehovah told Moses, “You cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.” (Exodus 33:20) And yet Jacob saw God face-to-face and not only lived, but was blessed by God. (Genesis 32:24-30)
Let’s think about it. Both the Romans and the Jews had highly literate people living in Palestine at the time of Jesus’s alleged life and death. The Romans took great interest in other religions, as we can see by them adopting much of Greek religion and, later, Christianity. We have the writings of literate Romans and Jews, about far more mundane things, but no contemporary of Jesus wrote a single word about him, or even mentioned the name of the wonder-working Jesus of Nazareth.
Plutarch says the sun went dark when Romulus died. [The sun was blotted out when Jesus was on the cross.]
Once you are able to admit that the Bible’s satanic commandments were authored by evil idiots, it’s not a great leap to figure out that others were authored by blatant liars.
How do you read “in context” the commandment of Moses to mass-murder male babies and unborns in their pregnant mothers’s wombs, keeping only the virgin girls alive, obviously as sex slaves? (Numbers 31:17-18)
There is even a case of Yahweh not being able to overcome Chemosh, the tribal god of the Moabites. In 2 Kings 3, the Israelites attacked Mesha, the king of Moab. The prophet Elisha confidently prophesied that Yahweh “will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.” (2 Kings 3:18) But Mesha offered his son as a burnt offering to Chemosh and the “fury” of Chemosh was “great” against the Israelites, who were defeated and forced to retreat, and the prophecy of Elisha proved false. (2 Kings 3:27)
This is my challenge to Christians: Do you have the courage of your convictions? If so, buy an inexpensive Bible and a box of highlighters. Start at the beginning and read every word, honestly, not lying to yourselves that evil is good because someone else said so. Consult yourself. The Bible says you were given the knowledge of good and evil, otherwise you would be immortal. So use what you were given at such an incredibly high price. Highlight every verse you would not say or do yourself, nor recommend to a child. Can a true faith be based on lies? Be honest about your reservations and doubts. You will soon have a very colorful book!
The Hebrew word Elohim is plural and means “gods” rather than “god.” The Elohim were the 70 sons and daughters of the Mesopotamian father-god El, who ruled beside his consort Asherah, the Queen of Heaven. Yahweh was one of the Elohim along with Baal/Marduk, Chemosh and other gods and goddesses whose names appear in the Bible.
Josephus wrote about Pilate in his other famous work, the Jewish War, yet failed to mention anything about Jesus. How is that possible for a believer?
Jesus prophesied that Judas Iscariot would sit on a throne, judging the 12 tribes of Israel. (Luke 22:30, Matthew 19:28)
The “god" of the Bible makes Thanos look like a saint. — Chike Igwegbe
When the Egyptian pharaoh defied Jehovah, it was because Jehovah was “hardening” the pharaoh’s heart, then using the pharaoh’s enforced defiance as an excuse to slaughter untold numbers of animals, adults and eventually first-born children. The pharaoh did not have free will, but was a puppet being made to jump about by the diabolical Jehovah, who became enraged over things he had caused to happen, then murdered innocent people and animals right and left.
Jesus appearing in the clouds with power and great glory, to be seen by all the people of the earth.
Well, maybe CON-text.
It seems obvious that the authors of the New Testament decided to embellish the story of Jesus liberally from the myths of Romulus.

G. A. Wells has argued against the authenticity of the Testimonium, noting that it’s noticeably shorter and more cursory than other such notices employed by Josephus in the Antiquities, and that if the Testimonium were authentic, it would have included more details and a longer introduction.
Most of the people went away happy, hoping for good things from their new god, but “some doubted.” [The original shorter ending of Mark 16:1-8 ends on a note of considerable doubt. Also: “Doubting Thomas” and Matthew 28:17, Luke 24:11, John 20.24-25]
Thus the Bible cannot be believed. It was written by many different authors with many different beliefs over many centuries, and they couldn’t keep their tall tales and lies straight.
I KNOW NUTHINK!
“Mass-murder babies and unborns in their pregnant mothers’ wombs, but keep the virgin girls alive as sex slaves.” (Numbers 31:17-18)
Isaiah 13:19-22 and Jeremiah 51:24-64 both prophesied the complete and permanent destruction of Babylon, which would become a desolate waste and would never again be inhabited. Never happened.
Clearly, the last two assertions above were written long after the time of Josephus. At the time he was writing Christianity was a minor Jewish sect not worth mentioning in his vast histories. Where is there any mention of the apostle Peter, who healed people with his shadow (Acts 5:15-16) so that “multitudes” were brought from other cities to Jerusalem and “they were healed every one.” It defies reason that Josephus would not write a single word about such wonder-working apostles operating in his backyard when he was living in Jerusalem, unless it was all made up later.
Later, Jacob would wrestle with God, face to face, and not only live but receive a blessing: “So Jacob named the place Peniel, saying, “I have seen God face to face, and yet my life was spared.” (Genesis 32:24-30).

Carnegie Mellon linguistics professor Paul Hopper has argued that the style and narrative structure of the Testimonium lie sharply in contrast with the rest of Josephus’s writings. According to Hopper, the language of the Testimonium has more in common with fourth-century Christian creedal statements than the historiographical work of Josephus and other first-century authors. Hopper concluded the most likely explanation is that the passage was interpolated in its entirety by a Christian scribe. Eusebius being my educated guess.
“Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.” (Mark 13:30)
THE PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING
25 But if out in the country a man happens to meet a young woman pledged to be married and rapes her, only the man who has done this shall die. 26 Do nothing to the woman; she has committed no sin deserving death. This case is like that of someone who attacks and murders a neighbor, 27 for the man found the young woman out in the country, and though the betrothed woman screamed, there was no one to rescue her. [More evil nonsense. It should make no difference if a girl managed to scream or didn’t. No one should ever assume that not screaming makes a rape victim guilty of anything.]
Christians claim the Bible is the “word of God” and thus “infallible.” But the proof is in the pudding. The Holy Ghost would know the last words Jesus spoke on the cross and would not misrepresent such a sacred utterance. But the human authors of the gospels all disagreed. Was there or was there not a ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE? The Holy Ghost would know. How many women visited the tomb? One? Two? Three? The human authors of the gospels didn’t know and made up four incompatible stories. What were the last words on earth of the resurrected God and Savior? If you had heard them, you would report them faithfully, but the four gospels and Acts all disagree. Where did the resurrected God and Savior ascend into the clouds — the most miraculous thing human eyes have ever witnessed, if it actually happened? If you were there, you would report the location faithfully, but the five accounts all disagree. Who lies about such things? Surely a true Christian wouldn’t, but the authors of the New Testament obviously did. Can a true religion be based on lies?
How terrible was the biblical “god”? He commanded the worst crimes known to mankind: slavery, sex slavery, ethnic cleansing, genocide, infanticide, matricide, and the ghastly stoning to death of boys for being stubborn and girls for non-sins like being raped and not proving their virginity by bleeding on their wedding nights (Deuteronomy chapter 22). The real Creator would have known all girls don’t bleed the first time they have sex, meaning this barbaric “god” was the creation of primitive men with no sense of justice.

We also see diabolical behavior on the part of Jehovah in the matter of the census of King David. According to the author of the account in 2 Samuel, “Go and count the people of Israel and Judah,” the Lord told King David. (2 Samuel 24:1) When David did what he was told to do, Jehovah became enraged and murdered 70,000 people who had nothing to do with the census. (2 Samuel 24:15) Jehovah was preparing to destroy Jerusalem and add tens of thousands more innocents to the body count, when he finally relented. (2 Samuel 24:16)
Here are just two out of many terrible examples:
(wisdom, it seems, is for the Hereafter).
Exodus 22:18 says, “Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.” This verse was used to torture, drown and burn women at the stake as “witches.” There are severe problems with this commandment that a wise God would understand. First, there are no women with supernatural powers. Second, if there were, no one could give them a fair trial or prove they did whatever they were accused of doing. Third, if prophets had supernatural powers (of course they didn’t) wouldn’t that have made them witches and warlocks? Why didn’t the Holy Spirit intercede with Christians who were torturing, drowning and burning women at the stake so unjustly? The obvious answer is that the Bible’s satanic verses had human origins and had nothing to do with a good, wise, just God.
Christians like to pretend the “god” of the New Testament is better than the Old Testament “god” but in reality the NT version is infinitely worse, because according to the Christian religion he will either cause or allow billions of human beings to suffer eternally in an infinitely cruel, purposeless “hell.” Why? For guessing wrong about which religion to believe!
Jesus saves, from what? The world’s greatest Bible scholars now agree that there never was a mention — not a single mention — of “hell” in the Old Testament. This is true for the HCSB version of the Bible commissioned by the famously literal Southern Baptist Convention. It is also true for the NABRE version translated by more than a hundred bible scholars for the Roman Catholic Church. And it’s true for the best-selling Bible, the NIV. The world’s greatest Bible scholars agree that there never was a “hell” according to the biblical God and his prophets. So what does Jesus “save” Christians from? He doesn’t save them from poverty, hunger, despair, sickness or death. The only thing Jesus saves Christians from is spending the trillions of dollars they have donated over the ages to lying churches, popes, priests and pastors.
“Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep [die] but we will all be changed.” (1 Corinthians 15:51-52)
If God
And as sick, twisted and murderous as the OT “god” was, he never condemned anyone to suffer for all eternity. An infinitely cruel and purposeless “hell” was the invention of early Christian theologians. It had never once been mentioned by the OT “god” or his prophets.
At the end we are supposed to believe God gave Job replacement children and everything was hunky-dory.
And aren’t we supposed to love our neighbors as we love ourselves? Why is this hypocritical “god” condemning billions of people we are commanded to love, to eternal suffering? After preaching the sermon of the Good Samaritan, a man who put aside religious differences to show compassion to a man of another religion, how can Jesus, who roundly condemned hypocrites, calling them “whitewashed sepulchers full of dead men’s bones” and “nests of vipers,” fail to be a Good Samaritan himself?
Life’s saving graces are love, pleasure, laughter
Livy says Romulus was murdered by Roman senators. Plutarch agrees that the Roman elites conspired to murder Romulus. [Jesus was tried by elites/senators: the Jewish Sanhedrin.]
I could go on and on, but you get the picture.
According to Christian theology, Jesus was able to save the thief on the cross with a nod of his head, and yet Jesus will refuse to nod his head at the saints of other religions and non-religions. An infinitely cruel Jesus will send Gandhi, Einstein and billions of other human beings to an eternal hell. But the Devil has no say in who goes where, so if someone you love goes to hell, it was Jesus who sent them there, for no purpose whatsoever. Why doesn’t he put his gargantuan ego aside and just nod his head at everyone? Ah, but then churches couldn’t make trillions of dollars peddling “salvation,” could they?
I have been accused of not interpreting Bible verses “spiritually.” My response:
Christians love to quote 2 Timothy 3:16, which says: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”
I join Mark Twain in grokking the economic basis of Christian “salvation.” My response to all infallible commandments of the infallible Bible, including those to mass-murder babies and unborns in their mothers' wombs, is: "Praise the LORD and pass the collection plate!" — Michael R. Burch
JESUS MADE MISTAKES
This page has reached Quora’s length limit, so I am moving my other responses to comments to the comments section.
HOW CAN A HEARTLESS HEAVEN BE HEAVEN?
“Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.” (Mark 9:1)
Very, impressive, but of course in a book of fiction the author(s) can make characters say anything. As the old saw goes, “The proof is in the pudding” and in reality the biblical “god” did change, a lot.
The biblical story of Sodom and Gomorrah could not have happened because according to the Bible, its “god” is a spirit who cannot be seen. And yet the biblical account of Sodom and Gomorrah says Jehovah spent a day with Abraham, had a meal with Abraham and his wife Sarah, after which God and Abraham bartered face-to-face over how many righteous men it would take to save Sodom and Gomorrah from destruction. (Genesis 18:1-33)
My favorite Bible passage is 1 Corinthians 13, but that marvelous sermon on Divine Love says 99% of the rest of the Bible is just noise — clanging gongs and tinkling cymbals — because a “god” who flies into rages and mass-murders children, babies and animals doesn’t come close to meeting this ultra-high standard. Furthermore, the evangelist Paul said God is nothing, despite all his vaunted wisdom and power, if he doesn’t live up to the ultra-high standards of Divine Love. Most of the Bible does NOT live up to Divine Love that holds no record of wrongs, thinks no evil of anyone, never gives up and never fails. That would, of course, mean no condemnation, no “hell” and no one being left behind much less being made to suffer for all eternity.
The other gods exist, and should worship Yahweh: “Worship him, all ye gods!” (Psalm 97:7)
is good
Seven biblical prophets denied that Yahweh desired bloody sacrifices, and in often blistering terms: Amos, Hosea, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Micah, Samuel and King David. (Amos 5:21-25, Hosea 6:6, Isaiah 1:11-15, Jeremiah 7:22, 14:12, Micah 6:6-8, 1 Samuel 15:22, Psalm 40:6, 51:16)
The moon no longer shining.
The Testimonium‘s rushed brevity on the most important of all Jewish topics, the appearance of the long-awaited Messiah.
Plutarch says Romulus’s body vanished. [The empty grave.]
—Michael R. Burch
Livy says Romulus was torn apart out of jealousy. [Jesus was torn apart on the cross, his side ripped open.]
In the comments I was called a “liar” about Deuteronomy 22, so I wrote this in reply:
The evangelist Paul was trying to convince the world that Jesus was the Christ, with every possible proof, but he never mentioned the loopy “ascension.” Nor did he mention the loopy “transfiguration” or the loopy “virgin birth” or the loopy “massacre of the innocents” or the “miracles” of Jesus including those at the supposedly empty grave. Obviously these tall tales (or blatant lies) were added to the texts after the fact, once Paul and the other apostles were no longer around to argue for the truth.
Of course that makes no sense at all, and the Messiah would have been a far greater figure to the Jews than George Washington was to Americans.
is libel.
what the hell is “above”?
Is there any “evidence” whatsoever that Jesus actually lived and was the Messiah?
But then nine verses later in the same chapter Jehovah said, “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen.” (Exodus 33:20)
The meek have never inherited the earth. Ask the victims of the Trail of Tears, the Holocaust, the Palestinian Nakba, etc.
Plutarch says that as a man Romulus became beloved by the people, and was hailed as king. [Jesus was hailed as “The King of the Jews” by cheering crowds.]
Quite obviously, none of these things happened during the first century AD, when that generation was alive.

THE HOLE-Y BIBLE’S BIGGEST PROBLEM
Joshua 3:10 prophesied that god will “without fail” drive out the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and the Jebusites. But the bible admits this didn’t happen. (Joshua 16:53, Judges 1:21, Judges 3:5, 1 Kings 9:20-21, etc.)
THE IMMENSELY FALLIBLE BIBLE
Bible apologists love to claim the Israelites failed to conquer other tribes because of this or that “sin,” but in truth the Bible says its “god” was on the side of Judah, but was stymied by low-tech iron chariots. What would Jehovah do in the face of modern weaponry, one wonders?
Why should the other gods worship Yahweh? Because he is the higher god: “For thou, Lord, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods.” (Psalm 97:9)
The Bible was written by primitive men who, if God is good, blasphemed his name from sunup to sundown, accusing him of all sorts of evil, and thus large parts of the Bible are unworthy of human belief, including the racist, sexist and homophobic verses.
“But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:27)
the expulsion of Jews from Spain and other countries
“Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.” (Luke 21:32)
The “evidence” of the few Roman historians who mentioned Jesus was hearsay, most probably what they had heard from Roman Christians who believed the tall tales fervently, having been duped by truthless charlatans who kept the “big fish” growing apace, by adding a ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE here and Jesus soaring into the clouds like Superman there, with never a peep from anyone who lived in the region where such wonders were performed.
Luke agrees:
In an amusing passage, Moses requested to see God’s glory and God had to “moon” Moses because to see his face would have meant instant death. (Exodus 33:11-20) And yet earlier in the same book, Moses and the elders of Israel not only saw God, but had a picnic with him! (Exodus 24:9-11)
Josephus was born in Jerusalem just a few years after the alleged resurrection of Jesus, at a time when apostles like Peter and Paul were allegedly healing people with their shadows and performing other outlandish “miracles.” And yet Josephus never mentioned Peter, Paul or a single Christian miracle, even though they occurred in his backyard. Why? Because there were no “miracles.” All the “miracles” were made up after the destruction of Jerusalem when Christians scattered to the four winds. And that explains why the New Testament was written in Greek rather than Hebrew or Aramaic, as one would expect.
The sun darkened.
“Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works.” (Psalm 86:8)
If one screams below,
GOD DOESN’T CHANGE, BUT HE DOES
Livy says Romulus was born to a virgin, Rhea Silvia, who claimed she had been impregnated by a god, Mars. Plutarch agrees that Romulus was the son of god, born of a virgin. [The parallel here is the “virgin birth” with John the Baptist possibly serving as Romulus’s twin Remus, since angels announced John’s birth as well as that of Jesus.]
WAS JESUS A SACRIFICE?
Jesus said not to plan for the future, but to trust in the providence of God, but no Christian church follows this nonsensical advice with their building projects, outreach programs, etc.
Josephus was writing a history of the Jews and their most important figures. The passage in question is like me writing a history of the American people, giving George Washington a rushed sentence or two, then writing at far greater length about Millard Fillmore, James Pierce, James Buchanan, Chester A. Arthur, et al.
If God has his eye on the sparrow, he allows them to fall right and left, giving us no confidence in his “love” or ability to “save.”
And the Bible doesn’t even blame this failure of “god” and his great heroes on iron chariots! Apparently the Jebusites were limited to ordinary swords and spears. Or perhaps sticks and stones.
The OT “god” was always a sick puppy and it’s hard to understand why billions of Christians, over time, have not been able to see just how sick their “god” was, according to the authors of the OT. But the introduction of “hell” made the NT “god” infinitely worse. And not only infinitely worse than the OT “god” but also infinitely worse than the Devil. After all, the Devil has no say in who goes to “hell.” If someone you love goes to “hell” it was Jesus who sent them there, by declining to nod his head at them as he did the thief on the cross. If the Devil rules “hell” as Christian theologians theorize, he is merely the beneficiary of Jesus’s inhumanity and egotism.
JESUS WAS THE GREATEST HYPOCRITE WHO EVER LIVED
Isaiah 19 contains a number of false prophecies about Egypt, including a complete drying up of the Nile, even the seas draining/failing, Egyptians speaking a Canaanite tongue and living in fear of tiny Judah, etc. None of which ever happened.
There is no “spiritual” or enlightened way to read such evil bible passages. The only thing Christians can do is complain bitterly when they are pointed out, attacking the messenger rather than being honest about what the Bible says so clearly.
THE GREATEST LIE EVER TOLD: “JESUS SAVES!”
